LATHER has partnered with the Baobab Guardians Programme, a non-profit based in South Africa that supports the future of the baobab tree population while empowering women whose employment opportunities are limited. Studies show that environmental degradation and climate change are negatively impacting the baobab tree's survival in the long term. Through this unique tree-planting program, women become guardians of baobab seedlings and watch over them until they can survive on their own in nature. The guardians are rewarded financially for each completed stage. When you buy any of our Baobab & Shea Collection products, we donate $1 to the program. When we partner with new hotels with this collection, we plant a tree in their name. We also donate to the Baobab Pre-School Programme to help build infrastructure and provide aid to under-sourced pre-schools in the areas where baobab harvesters live.
We are proud to partner with Sundara, a nonprofit organization that recycles old hotel soap into new bars, giving them a second life. Sundara hires local women to do this work, lifting them from poverty with fair wage livelihoods. They distribute the soap to their communities while providing free hygiene education classes for vulnerable populations. We are honored to work with Sundara who are making the world a cleaner and healthier place, one bar of recycled soap at a time.
For over a decade, LATHER has proudly supported Ability First, one of Southern California’s oldest non-profit organizations that provides community programs for people with disabilities or special needs to help them achieve their full potential. Their services include life skills development, social and recreational activities, job training and employment, camps and housing. Through the years, we have employed people from Ability First, giving each worker important job skills and tools to help them succeed.
The heart that loves travel is the heart that can do good things for the whole community – people, animals, and the environment. And that's why we created Kind Traveler, a Public Benefit Corporation that's the first socially conscious 'Give + Get' hotel booking platform that transforms travelers into a financial force for good.
LATHER was founded by Emilie Hoyt a migraine sufferer who learned at an early age that many of her headaches were triggered by the synthetic fragrances in beauty products; hence, she created her products using only pure essential oils instead of perfumes. To help other headache sufferers, we've introduced an all-natural salve, Clear Head Balancing Balm, to help ease tension and pressure bought on by headaches while promoting balance and well-being. To learn more about headaches causes and treatments, visit www.headaches.org or call 1-888-NHF-5552.
For years, LATHER has supported Anti-Slavery International, an international human rights organization that works to end slavery and related abuses. LATHER believes that every woman and child should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential, so have supported a number of empowerment projects including: providing micro-credits to women, enabling them to buy things such as grain and seed which can be turned into profit; helping former female slaves undertake income-generating activities and basic skill development; and providing children with canteen and pharmacy supplies, as well as books, desks and chairs for community classrooms.
LATHER has partnered with Clean the World distributes recycled soap products to impoverished countries worldwide, and to domestic homeless shelters. This organization saves countless lives by providing access to soap and education about proper hygiene to prevent the spread of disease.
